Summary
Commemorating the centenary of the North Mt Lyell Mine Disaster, through the support of North-West Coast artist Annie Brennan, 42 local school children at St Joseph's Primary School constructed 42 lanterns that were integral components of a significant local commemorative event. A solemn parade, a soprano singing nearer my god to thee, a funeral wagon on the West Coast Wilderness Railway, and over one thousand bearing witness to a powerful moment in the memory of Queenstown.
