Collaboration between people and place is a central theme of The Unconformity festival programs. While the stories, people, and voices of this region are represented throughout the festival, The Art Trail is our platform exclusive to West Coast artists only. This celebrated tradition began in 2016 as a way to allow locals to publicly share and sell work in their favourite venues, encouraging visitors to meet artists, explore locations, and experience the artwork created here year-round.
The Art Trail is open to visual arts, crafts, and other forms of contemporary art practice. Artists are encouraged to present the work they are excited to share in the context of this globally-recognised experimental art festival. The Art Trail is the only festival program where works can also be offered for sale, with The Unconformity taking no commission on sales.
Past venues have included studios, galleries, cafes and restaurants, shopfronts, schools, houses, sheds and vacant buildings.
The festival dates are 16–19 October 2025.
A key characteristic of The Unconformity Art Trail is its independence, with participating artists creating the work, negotiating with venues, handling installation, scheduling front-of-house staff or volunteers, and establishing sales processes.
The Unconformity promotes the Art Trail through the festival program alongside a dedicated brochure and map to guide audiences to participating venues.
Open Hall: Art Trail Information Session
An Art Trail Information Session was held at 6pm on Thursday 3 April for West Coast artists and venue owners to learn more about being involved in The Unconformity Art Trail. If you were unable to attend that event, you can view and download the presentation slides here.
